Prof Landa is currently Full Professor in Criminal Law at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU (Euskadi, Spain). He is director of the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights and Public Authorities of the UPV/EHU (http://www.katedraddhh.eus).
His principal lines of research deal with racism, xenophobia and discrimination, hate crimes, crimes against humanity, terrorism and penology.
He has been in Hamburg (2000 DAAD), Heidelberg (2004 DAAD) as well as at the University of Cambridge-Lauterpatch Centre for International Law (UK, 2010, 2011,2012, 2014), Viena (2016), Edinburgh (2018), Berlin (2019, 2022) and New York (Columbia University 2024) as visiting fellow.
He was awarded with the Vom Humboldt research fellowship in November 2005. Prof Landa has been Director of the Human Rights Office of the Basque Government (Justice Department) from November 2005 until May 2009.
At the moment he is director of a research team funded by the Spanish (I+D+I PID2020-115320GB-100) Government with a special focus upon hate-crime.
